Admitting deterioration

ANOTHER day—another canal closure, this time the Walsall Canal, with Canal & River Trust admitting the closure is due to deterioration.

Ryders Green Flight is now closed from Lock 1 to Lock 8, with CaRT admitting the reason is 'due to deterioration of the top gate balance beam' and so the structure has failed, Keith Gudgin tells us.

Alternative routes

There is no intimation how long a repair will take, but the Trust has advised boaters to use the alternative routes of Rushall, Tame Valley and Birmingham Mainline Canals.

The lock beam broke away yesterday, Tuesday 23rd June.
