THE Environment Agency have closed the Northampton Arm linking the Grand Union Canal to the Nene at Gayton Junction.
This is under instructions from the Environment Agency following a serious pollution incident, Keith Gudgin tells us.
Analysing
The Environment Agency are analysing the contaminant, but do not want further transfer of water spreading the contamination until it is aware of exactly what it is.
Canal & River Trust will review this tomorrow, Monday, but it states that it may not be able to re-open the canal until further instruction from the Environment Agency.
UPDATE:
The waterways was re-opened at 4pm on Tuesday, with the pollution cleared.
