Leeds & Liverpool open

THE Leeds & Liverpool Canal that has been closed in Leeds this week due to the fire of a building overlooking the waterways is now open.

It was the Environment Agency that closed the canal earlier this week during the fire, but kept it closed so that it could 'manage the impact on fish' in the affected section, Keith Gudgin tells us.

Fresh water

This meant running fresh water through Office Lock and River Lock to feed water through to clear the polluted water that then drained away, with the canal remaining closed whilst this was undertaken.
