Hoping for rain at Stoke Bruerne

LIKE many other events in that part of the country, the organisers of Stoke Bruerne Canal Museum's Annual Gala are hoping for rain, lots of it, before June, but tell us British Waterways will do its level best to get boats through despite lock restrictions, and to maintain water levels.

The cat came back

IT WAS whilst cruising the Trent & Mersey Canal in Stoke-on-Trent that boaters Stuart and Maureen Emery lost their cat Mac. But the cat did come back—after six years!

MAUREEN Shaw, who sadly died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday 17th March, in her mid 70's will be known to many boaters by name and thousands more as the 'Lady of the Lock' having lived in the Lock Keeper's Cottage on Wardle Lock in Middlewich, writes David King.
