A COLLAR on Sawley No 1 Lock has snapped with the lock now out of action, and boaters told to use the other of the twin locks.

There has always been doubt as to which of the pair is No 1 and which No 2, but we were told that No 1 was the nearest to the former lock house, then by a volunteer that it was the furthest!

Swivelling key

But if it is the furthest, this means boaters will be left with the one with the swivelling key lock on the control panel, that we could not work, that will cause problems.

In any event whilst the collar is being replaced, perhaps a new lock should be installed in No 2—or is that No 1?  CaRT tells 'customers' to proceed with caution, so perhaps this means using the one with the broken control panel lock.

The collar has been replaced on the lock, bu no intimation concerning the faulty lock on the control pedestal.
