ONE of the many celebrations of the 200th anniversary of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal is the journey of the original 'short boat' Kennet along the entire length of the waterway.

By next Monday (17th) it will have reached Skipton, where a welcome is planned including the town's mayor and children from various  schools, Alan Tilbury tells us.

All manner of produce

The Kennet is a remaining 'short boat' that plied the waterway during its commercial heyday, carrying all manner of produce to and from the then busy docks at Liverpool.

The celebrations of the anniversary of the canal are being described as 'the greatest long distance water party ever staged in Yorkshire, Lancashire, Greater Manchester and Merseyside'.
