PICCADILLY Basin at the junction of the Rochdale and Aston canals has been drained again, and yet again boaters are being blamed.
The stoppage notice states that the paddles have been left open, implying it is boaters, the people at CaRT unable to grasp that if any paddles would be left open they would be those on the gates where a boat leaves the lock, obviously not those on the top gate holding back the water, that have to be firmly closed before the lock can be emptied.
Should repair the anti-vandal locks
As our Keith Gudgin advises, CaRT should repair the damaged anti-vandal locks to stop the paddles being open by vandals, instead of blaming its customers.
[Perhaps when the basin has been drained a few more times, the people at CaRT will have the sense to realise it is vandals and not boaters opening the paddles—Editor.]
