A DOUBLE decker pleasure boat caught fire and crashed into a pier at Canary Wharf this afternoon (Sunday) with 142 passengers on board.
The boat was cruising through central London at speed when a fire broke out in its engine room that quickly spread with it then loosing steerage and careering into a pier at Canary Wharf.
Emergency services
The emergency services attended and quickly made sure all passengers and crew were taken off the boat, with the fire service then dousing the flames.
People were injured in the violent collision with the pier, with paramedics giving treatment and the badly injured taken to hospital.
Structurally damaged
The pier was structurally damaged by the impact of the pleasure boat.
The boat is still at Canary Wharf with investigation as to the cause of the fire that caused both engines to fail being investigated.
