THOUGH this week's closure number five at Selby where a swing bridge over the Ouse failed, was attended to very quickly, however closure number six will take much longer.
Bellfurrows Lock (2) on the Ripon Canal has failed, but will be out of action for three weeks, closing access to the marina, Keith Gudgin tells us.
Poor state
The lock is in such a poor state that not only do both sets of gates need attention but the cills too need replacing.
The reason for such a long stoppage is that a great deal of work will be needed and the required safety precautions have to be in place before work can start, then of course cleared away when finished.
