YOU boaters lined-up at Fobney Lock on the Kennet & Avon Canal ready for it to re-open this morning (Friday) as promised by Canal & River Trust are going to be unlucky—for oh no it won't!
A boat sank in the lock on Wednesday, and though it was expected to have it raised by this morning, this has not been possible owing to 'complications', Keith Gudgin tells us.
Considering best method
The planned recovery of the boat has proved more complicated than expected, with the Trust now considering what is the 'best method of doing it'.
No work will be done over the week-end, but it is expected that the boat will be raised on Monday and the waterway reopened on Tuesday.
The Trust recently announced a contract with River Canal Rescue to raise sunken boats, and with its expertise usually do it in a few hours, but this taking nearly a week leads us believe that another, less experienced contractor is in charge.
