IN ADDITION to the temporary pedestrian bridge installed last month after the floods damaged the main Elland Road Bridge, a further one is being installed to carry services.
The damaged bridge previously carried the services, but as this has to be demolished a further one will carry utilities such as water, gas, electricity cables and telecoms, Alan Tilbury tells us.
'Beached'
The crane that was brought in to remove the narrowboat that was 'beached' during the Calder & Hebble Navigation flood was also used to install the structure. The road bridge is a listed structure, with permission being needed to demolish before a new one can be built.
However, £5.5 million of funding is available to rebuild the bridge, the new Ministerial Flood Recovery Envoy for Yorkshire, Robert Goodwill, has announced.
