A LEAK ON THE ROCHDALE CANAL requires access from a privat landowner before work can begin.
Navigation closed
The leak that occurred on the 31st March was below Lock 81, (picture by Pennine Waterways) meaning that navigation is closed between locks 81 and 83, Keith Gudgin reports.
Canal & River Trust tell it is currently in discussions with the neighbouring landowner to secure the necessary access to their land.
This is required to undertake repairs to the canal wash wall and canal bed.
A start date for the repair works will be confirmed once access arrangements have been agreed.
Detailed inspection
The navigation is closed between Lock 83 and Lock 81 on the waterway to allow teams and engineers to carry out a detailed inspection of a leak located below Lock 81.
That has resulted in low water levels.
