A ROCK fall into the Springs Branch of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal at Skipton has completely closed the waterway.
Many tons of rock and rubble fell into the waterway on Friday, presumably caused by the extensive recent rainfall, that has caused the police to also close the footpath as it is now dangerous, with it being diverted by the county council.
A 'must'
Springs Branch is a spur off the main waterway, and a 'must' for visiting boaters, though boats have to be turned in the width of the waterway or reversed.
It is not known as to whether the rock will be cleared under the present financial situation of Canal & River Trust, or the Branch simply sealed off.
