Not a lot for boaters

LEICESTERSHIRE City Council has now finalised its new waterways strategy plan, which will be endorsed this month.

This concerns the 23 miles of the Grand Union Canal and Soar running through its boundaries, from Loughborough Meadows in the North to Kilby Bridge in the South.

However, though principally a navigation, boaters seem of little concern, with the emphasis on support for wildlife, walkers and cyclists, and a new visitor centre, featuring in the new plan.

Key proposals include improving access and signage for pedestrians, cyclists and linking up wildlife sites as a continuous corridor, and promoting visitor destinations and facilities.

It is expected to be launched in October.
