Who ate the mince pies?

A FACEBOOK Question and Answer (Q&A) session with Canal & River Trust, Chief Executive Officer, Richard Parry, took place on Monday, writes Allan Richards.

Perhaps it was a mistake to advertise it and hold it on ‘Canal & River Trust Boating'. This is one of four CaRT facebook pages and gained some notoriety in the past for deleting posts. Today, it seems little used.

Festive scene

Boaters who actually knew the Q&A session was happening and landed on the correct CaRT facebook page were greeted with a somewhat festive scene. The discussion thread had a picture of Richard in front of a Christmas tree, sitting at a table with a laptop and a couple of mince pies.

No Santa outfit but Richard had removed his tie. Unusually, he was not smiling and it is wondered if someone had told him that smiling made him look like his predecessor, Robin Evans (don't worry, Richard, you will never get near the ‘cheesy grin').

Richard had gone

The Q&A session went on for two hours with Richard avoiding answering some of the 30 or so questions. Perhaps, the highlight was the end where the picture was changed. It was the same scene but with an empty chair. Richard had gone!

Very soon, someone asked why the Q&A posts had been deleted en masse. Oh dear! Had we returned to the past where CaRT would delete posts giving the most spurious of reasons or, worse still, simply deny that they had deleted anything?

The mystery was soon solved. In posting the new picture with the empty chair all the Q&A posts had moved and you needed to scroll down the screen to find them.

Another mystery, however, remains unanswered—Who ate all the pies?
