Partnership wants 13 new members

THE  Canal and River Trust (CaRT) West Midlands Waterways Partnership (WMMP) is asking for no less than 13 new members, writes Allan Richards.

The call comes less than two weeks after its Annual Public Meeting in Warwick for which it has failed to publish minutes.

Latest minutes

On the 10th October, narrowboatworld revealed that partnerships had, between them, raised just £25,000 in three years despite being intended to be self funding by the end of this year and making a positive contribution to the Trust thereafter.

The article also provided a link to the latest WMWP minutes (chosen because three members are also on CaRT's council) which revealed that the partnership was largely inactive with many members not attending meetings. The minutes also went on to record that membership was up for renewal with everyone needing to reapply for their positions if they wish to continue.

Peter Mathews

It was recently confirmed that the chair of WMWP, Peter Mathews, CMG, was to serve a second term of office. However, one is now left wondering if this is now to be a short term arrangement whilst a new Waterways Partnership, including a chairman, is appointed from scratch.

[Contrary to WMWP's wish to appoint 13 new members, the terms of reference for Waterway Partnerships state that a partnership will have a minimum of eight members with an option to increase this to 12 at the discretion of the Chair of the Partnership.]
