Taxi in a hurry

A TAXI driver was in so much of a hurry that he risked going under a falling barrier of a mechanical canal swing bridge and was stuck on the bridge as it swung open.

This swing bridge over the Leeds & Liverpool Canal near Bingley was being operated by a boater, with the safety arm coming down when the taxi driver risked his luck by ignoring the flashing red light and driving onto the bridge, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Sitting there

But he had to slam on the brakes as the bridge then starting moving away from the far bank, with the embarrassed driver sitting there whist the boat went through and the bridge was eventually closed.

As a result motorist are being warned not to risk 'jumping' the red lights, as it could result in a vehicle going over the end of the bridge as it swung open and ending up in the waterway.
