Some get away with it

THERE are strong objections to boat traders who have obtained a licence to sell limited snacks and drinks to passing walkers and cyclists but now change their narrowboat to a broad beam and turned it into a full blown café even selling alcohol.

It was the Milsoms who first applied for the licence to sell drinks to passing walkers, cyclists, etc from their boat at Bramwith Lock on the Sheffield & South Yorkshire Navigation, and not to attract motorists.

Now a restaurant

After permission was granted, the narrowboat was replaced by a broad beam that was set up as a café, with a licence to serve alcohol with food. Local people objected believing it would become a noisy party boat but Donna Milsom told the council that 'it was not going to be a party boat but a restaurant for fine dining'.  Hardly a boat selling limited snacks and drinks to passers by.

There is now an A frame advertising what is now a restaurant, and social media is being used to widely advertise it stating there is amble parking, yet there is none provided only the limited moorers' car park.

Ignored

CaRT first stated that there is not the infrastructure in place for a café boat and this venture would not be supported by CaRT, so the licence limited the venture to snacks and drinks yet the Milsoms have ignored this and opened a restaurant.

Strangely when CaRT's Ed Fox carried out his investigation to see if the Milsoms were planning to open a café/restaurant, he found no evidence of this even though CaRT had been sent by the council the licencing application pack which had the signed letter from Donna Milsom telling the people objecting to the application that it was a restaurant for fine dining...

The Planning permission and appeals information is available at http://www.doncaster.gov.uk/planningapplicationsonline you just search bramwith and all applications come up. There is one for change of use for public mooring.
