Stourport Basins regeneration

DEMOLITION of old buildings around Stourport Basins on the junction with the Staffs & Worcs Canal with the Severn is the beginning of their regeneration.

Work started today (Monday) demolishing the former Lloyd's Garage, that will open up the basins to the town, with the creation of pedestrian access, Alan Tilbury reveals.

Hidden Jewel

Wyre Forest District Council's John Campion, explained:

"This site represents a major regeneration opportunity in the town. The basins have been a hidden jewel, so we are delighted to be able to reveal them for local people and visitors."

We are told that the economic climate over the last few years has made bringing forward regeneration plans particularly difficult, but now there is to be a mixed use commercial, retail and residential development by the basins.

In the meantime the site will  provide a temporary car park near the town centre.
