EA increase nearly double CaRT's

THE Environment Agency (EA) has announced that its boat registration charge increase for 2014/15 will be 4.8%.

This is in line with its three years charging plan, and applies to all EA managed waterways, but is nearly double that of the Canal & River Trust's increase of just 2.8% in line with inflation.

Overall increase

The plan calculates the increase in the registration charge on a yearly basis by taking the July Consumer Price Index (CPI) and adding 2%. The 2013 July CPI was 2.8% giving an overall increase of 4.8%.

Charges for commercial boats however will remain at 2011 levels.
