Marina raises charity money

EACH year Church Minshull Aqueduct Marina raises money for charity through a series of events held in the marina café and surrounding reception area, Chris Owen-Roberts tells us

This year the Marina has already amassed over £1,000 for worthy causes and with at least one more event to come the organisers are hoping the total will top £1,500 for the year.

Raised

So far £1,000 has been raised for the Helsby Golf Club Powered Wheelchair Appeal at the Marina Open Day and Boaters' Bash, held in July. A further £150 was raised at the Marina's all day Coffee Morning, held as part of the Macmillan Cancer Support's World's Biggest Coffee Morning appeal in September (pictured) and the year will be topped off by the Marina's Annual Christmas Fair on Sunday 1st December from 11am to 4pm.

Robert Parton, Marina Director, explained:

"We are a relatively small marina with less than 150 boats, but our moorers and friends really pull out all the stops to raise funds for charity each year. The choice of our main charity comes from suggestions made by our moorers and friends and there are many very worthy charities put forward. This year's charity was chosen by Geoff and Anya Harris whose son has benefited from a powered wheelchair paid for by the Helsby Golf Club's appeal."

Everyone is welcome to join in with the Annual Christmas Fair. It is a tremendous opportunity to purchase Christmas gifts and stocking fillers as well as to try out the Marina café's array of home-made lunches and delicious cakes. There will also be a prize draw, a ‘guess the weight of the cake' and other Christmas challenges.

Robert added:

"We hope many people will come along and help us to exceed our target for this year. We are also challenging everyone to help us beat our record and raise more than we've achieved in previous years. Our best year to date was 2011 when we raised over £2,800 so there is still a chance to beat it!"

Come along on 1st December, join in the fun and help make a new record!
