Work on Woolsthorpe Lock

Published: Wednesday, 17 July 2013

WORK is still being carried out on Woolsthorpe Lock on the Grantham Canal, that when complete will further extend the restoration.

The Grantham Canal Society still however needs £8,000 out of the total of £35,000 that is needed to replace the lock, but is busy attempting to raise the amount, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Further length opened

It is the bottom gates of the lock that need replacing after the top gates were replaced last year at a cost of £26,500. When complete it will mean a further length of waterway can be opened.

As part of the fund raising there will be an Open Day on Sunday 28th July with 45 minutes boat trips from Harlaxton Wharf between 11am and 4pm.

There will be a further Open Day on Sunday 13th October at the Society's Woolsthorpe depot next to the Dirty Duck pub, where it will hold its annual duck race.
