Still £222,000 for Evans!

IT IS perhaps, little wonder that Canal & River Trust (CaRT) did not release its first Annual Report several weeks before its AGM, writes Allan Richards.

If it had then someone would be asking why CaRT misled the public regarding the salary of its outgoing chief executive, Robin Evans. His salary has remained at £222,000 under CaRT rather than being reduced to £195,000 as was promised.

£195,000 says Vince

The latest claim that Robin Evans salary under CaRT was £195,000 came from Interim Chief Executive, Vince Moran in narrowboatworld 'The Trustees of CaRT issued a press release on 24th July 2012 which made clear that from that date the salary of Mr Evans was £195,000 pa and the salary of Mr Ridal was £160,000 pa. Accordingly Richard Parry will be the highest paid Executive Director, when he is appointed, on an annual salary of £175,000'.

Confirmed

However, the Annual Report shows that Evans' salary was not reduced but remained at £222,000. This has been confirmed by a trustee who told narrowboatworld just hours before the Annual Report was released that the outgoing chief executives salary under CaRT was some 14% higher than the figure £195,000 figure given to the public

Caught out again

CaRT has already been caught out misleading the public with regard to its finance director's new and old salaries which were not correctly given in the Press Release. Now, it appears that it is happening again with its outgoing chief executive who did not have his salary reduced.

Philip Ridal's salary under CaRT is £9,000 more than we were told. Robin Evans salary under CaRT is (or rather was) some £27,000 more than we were told.

Does CaRT wish to own up to any more directors who have salaries higher than the public has been told?
