THE 'Everything is the garden is lovely' report in the Times by CaRT's Chairman Tony Hales is being met with scepticism by boaters.
The first year
The report concerns the first year as a charity, with one boater replying:
'Tony Hales (July 4) is very positive about the Canal & River Trust after its first year.
I am on a narrowboat on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal. Although we have had some uplifting experiences, we have encountered stretches with no water; leaky locks, some almost impossible to fill; broken paddle machinery; disillusioned staff, some fearing redundancy; ill-maintained and heavy swing bridges; other facilities out of order; and very few boats on the move'.
