CaRT to run surgeries

FOLLOWING in the footsteps of MPs, Canal & River Trust is to embark on surgeries to 'encourage people to have a greater role in how their local waterway is run'.

An early one of these is to be held in Gloucester, taking in the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal and the Severn, with a series of the new surgeries starting in May, Alan Tilbury reveals.

15 minutes

The proposed surgeries will be similar to those of the MPs, with people given 15 minutes slots to state their problems or ideas, that CaRT believes 'will help the community's ideas and opinions shape the charity's work'.

All subjects in which the Trust has interests can be brought up, including boating, cycling, angling, ecology and heritage, etc.

No angry boaters

However angry boaters will have little chance of making their views known, as the surgeries will not be informal, but questions must be submitted in advance in writing, the reason given that 'staff can prepare detailed answers'.

The proposal is for the surgeries once a month alternating between Gloucester, Diglis and Govilon in Wales, with the first in Gloucester on 2nd May from 3pm to 7pm.
