Should have more sense

A VERY expensive 'gin palace' owner decided to take his new boat on the flooding Thames—but didn't get very far.

He obviously wasn't very good at calculating heights as the boat just would not go under Chertsey Bridge, becoming well and truly wedged, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Rescued

The two people on board had to be rescued as it was not known if the boat had been damaged and taking water, with fire crews hoisting them from the boat.

The bridge had to be closed to traffic from 1pm until 10pm, causing traffic chaos, as it was not known if the £45ft £500,000 boat had caused structural damage as it struck the bridge at speed, so had to be checked.

A fire boat was in attendance in case of fire, with the boat eventually being pulled out and taken away to asses its damage.
