The state of the waterways

IT WAS Frederick R Barnard who stated 'One picture is worth 10,000 words', so here are five pictures taken within a few miles of the Trent & Mersey Canal, clearly showing the state of the waterways.

Another bridge badly cracking.

Bridge 35 at Tattenhill Lock in need of repair.

Absolutely no line of sight around the bend, creating a hazard.

This is a common feature where trees are allowed to grow.

But as boaters are only too aware, the above examples are only too common to many neglected waterways starved of cash.

Whilst of course thousands of pounds are spent on growing trees in a narrowboat and engraving lock beams with poetry...
