Boat on weir

A NARROWBOAT was swept onto the weir at Ratcliffe-on-Soar yesterday (Thursday) when the owner pulled over to allow a broad beam to pass, and was swept by the current at Cedar Isle on the river.

The boat had to be rescued by the fire brigade and CART. Though the river level was off red, the boat  was caught out by a sudden flow, and suffered damaged to its cratch and chimney, Pam Pickett tells us.

The boaters had been cruising for two months, and the couple say they intend to carry on.
