A BOATER moored in Gloucester on the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal had a shock when first a suspected burglar then the police chased across his moored narrowboat near Sainsbury's.

It started with the report of a handbag and a computer being stolen, and police finding the items cached nearby, and so waited for the burglar, who when returning, saw the police and ran.

Leaped on to narrowboat

The police chased the man through the supermarket car park towards the waterway, and had him cornered by the water, but he leaped on to the moored narrowboat and flung himself in the water, with the police officers following suit and following him in.

Luckily the water was only chest high, and the police easily managed to apprehend the man, who was arrested.
