Rubbish not emptied

THE rubbish bins at Wolvercote Lock on the Oxford Canal have not been emptied since January, and this is causing complaints from boaters.

Boaters moored nearby are complaining of the stench after the rubbish has piled up month after month with no attempt at it being taken away.

Blamed contractors

There are eight bins altogether used by the boats at the moorings by Bridge 234 above the lock, with boaters complaining to the local council and British Waterways, the latter being responsible.

However, British Waterways have blamed the contractors, Biffa, that took on the rubbish collection, but Biffa blames Oxford City Council that agreed to do it on the company's behalf.

A boater who contacted us believes it was okay when British Waterways workers did the work themselves, as they understood the situation, but now it is left to contractors it is 'all hit and miss'.
