Litter louts to blame

WHILST members of the public are complaining of the litter floating in the Nottingham Canal near Meadow Lane Lock, it is of course members of the public themselves that are responsible.

People are throwing all kinds of litter in the canal, with a British Waterways spokesman asking for the public's help in keeping a stretch of canal in Nottingham free from litter.

Local businesses

Not having the resources to keep the waterway clean on a daily basis, the spokesman is suggesting that local businesses adopt a section to keep clean.

The area along the Nottingham Canal, near Meadow Lane Lock, is used for fishing and recreation but is blighted by discarded refuse.

A spokesman for the organisation said it had not got the resources to clean up on a daily basis, but had invested £1m in upgrading towpaths and walking routes along the Nottingham Canal.
