Fighting for the Weaver bridge

Published: Friday, 17 February 2012

THAT 'volunteer painter', Tom Reynolds who only wants to smarten up the eyesore Sutton Swing Bridge over the Weaver is doing his utmost to make it happen, against so many objections, particularly from British Waterways.

He tells us that AkzoNobel have offered Hammerite paint at what must equate to be worth £50,000, Eddie Basnett has offered men and machinery to handle parts that require close Health & Safety conformance.

Contribution

He just needs to find a lawyer who's got some Health & Safety experience, to provide legal cover  etc and a contribution from borough councillors of say £1,000 towards providing the necessary materials such as paint brushes, chemicals and overalls so they can get on with the job.

Of the problems, he tells narrowboatworld:

"British Waterways will not resolve this issue themselves. Their partners in this, Chester West & Chester (CW&C), have already demonstrated a level of ineptitude that is truly unbelievable. Our MP, Graham Evans, seems disinterested.

"So, to 'smarten-up' the Frodsham area environment, it will be down to volunteers to improve the look of the bridge.

"The 'contribution' from our Borough Councillors will show they still retain 'some' link and empathy with the area (and people) they serve as opposed to Chester where the ill-conceived CW&C plan was created."
