NABO fields one candidate

Thank you to Chris Potter for his kind words about the National Association of Boat Owners (NABO) work over the years, writes Simon Robbins.

In answer to Chris's substantive point, [narrowboatworld 17th December] yes, we are putting up a candidate for Canal & River Trust Council. We discussed how to approach matters at our last Council meeting a few weeks ago, and have taken the view that we are going to put up a single candidate, (i.e. to at most seek only one of the four places available in the boaters election).

Stephen Peters

Stephen Peters has offered to be our candidate and you can see a little more from Stephen on the NABO web site if you care.

Given the nomination process, we anticipate that there will be a significant number of candidates for the four places (and consequently a sizeable ballot paper for us all to sort our way through). As one of the 'usual suspects' we are, perhaps paradoxically some might say, very happy for independent and unaligned candidates to stand.

New blood

The election is a potential opportunity for some new blood to become involved and we welcome this possibility. While everyone is understandably focused on the election, we would also be very surprised if other consultative structures do not continue in one form or another and we certainly don't take the view that having a NABO voice on the Canal & River Trust Council is the be all and end all.

NABO will in any event continue to try to represent boaters' interests as fully as possible, regardless of the outcome of the election, and regardless of who is running any given waterway.
