Lucky rescue

A WOMAN'S wheelchair brakes failed whilst whilst heading towards the Lee Navigation at Waltham Abbey, and she and the wheelchair ended up in the water.

It was only the quick intervention of her husband, who jumped into the river and held her head above water, that saved her from drowning, after she became totally submerged.

Passer by

A passer by saw the incident, also went into the water, and together with the husband, managed to get the 80 years old woman out of the river.

A spokesman for the Essex Fire and Rescue Service, told that it was by holding the woman's head above water, that she was saved from drowning
