Prince Edward to visit Droitwich

THE Earl of Wessex is to visit Droitwich Spa tomorrow (Thursday) and will arrive  at Vines Park by narrowboat.

His Royal Highness Prince Edward will arrive at the park at 12.30pm, with members of the Droitwich Waterways Trust making sure everything goes to plan, Alan Tilbury tells us.

Travel the waterway

His party will travel a length of the restored Droitwich Broad Canal on Pamela May before arriving at the park, the visit to see how the town has recovered after its floods in 2007, when he first visited the town.

He will meet various High Street traders, followed by a reception at the Parish Centre.

Recently formed

Droitwich Waterways Trust was recently formed to promote and protect the waterway after the Droitwich Canals Trust was disbanded after successfully overseeing the restoration of the two Droitwich canals.

It is hoped that the boat's passage to Vines Park with Prince Edward goes without a hitch, as the boat carrying the VIPs for the opening of the restored canals came to an unscheduled halt—as seen in the above picture—at a swing bridge when no one had thought to have it opened.
