Email: Alarmed at call

I am very alarmed by the call from Frank Hurst to banish pedal cycles from the towpaths.

For a start, the vast majority of cyclists are sensible, many of them being parents out with their kids introducing them to the joys of our canals and rivers. But most of all is he not aware that many many boaters, especially single handers like myself, rely heavily on our little foldaways to get to the local villages and shops etc.

Also I rely on my 'lockwheeler' friends to assist when negotiating my local flights, and as the term suggests, they of course need to be able to use bikes!

It really annoys me when people think the only solution is to ban everything for everybody, regardless of the knock-on effect to the sensible ones amongst us. Why should we be put out because of the mindless idiots of this world.
