Serious assault on canal towpath

TWO men were arrested after a 'sustained, serious assault' on a man on the towpath of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal.

In the dark of the early morning of Saturday, 22nd October, Martin Trezise and Paul Lyszkiewicz were arrested after the attack on the towpath of the waterway at Wigan, with one accused of grievous bodily harm and remanded in custody, and the other with common assault, Alan Tilbury reveals.

Thrown in canal

After the beating, the victim was thrown into the canal, and was so badly beaten he was unable to get out, but had to be rescued by the emergency services.

He was taken to hospital, and treated for hypothermia, had two fractured cheek bones and multiple bruises to his face.
