Engine filter caused Trent grounding

THE incident of the narrowboat being grounded on the tidal Trent and the owner having to be rescued was caused by the fuel filter dropping off the engine.

The narrowboat Skystone became marooned on a sand bank at Beckingham after the owner lost power and drifted with the tide, causing the fire people to be called out to rescue him and his dog.

No reason given

No reason was given for this at the time, but Nigel Carton writes:

"I have just inspected the boat that was rescued from the Trent. The owner had just had a service carried out on his four years old boat, what happened beggars belief; the fuel filter fell off!

"Hence the boat grounding and the owner and dog having to be rescued.  The boat was later towed to West Stockwith."
