Trent bridge delayed again

THERE is further delay for the completion of Long Horse bridge over the Trent at Derwent Mouth.

Though it was originally planned to be erected in August, and the last date early September, it is now scheduled for Thursday and Friday 15th and 16th September.

Delays

No reason has been given for any of the delays by the contractors May Gurney to complete the contract, with the bridge first scheduled to be lifted into place on the 15th August, then delayed until the 22nd August, delayed again until the 5th September and still delayed yet again to the 15th September. The above photograph shows the bridge yesterday, Tuesday 30th August, with its southern bank base.

It would seem the contractors are in a quandary as to how it will be lifted onto its bases, for we are now told 'If possible the contractor will carry out this work under a restriction and is currently preparing the method statement to determine if this is practical'.

Whatever that means.  But it is now accepted that the cost will be way above the original rather expensive £1.4 millions.
