Email: Not surprised at water shortage
Having just read the latest issue of narrowboatworld I was not surprised to read of the water shortage problem. When was the last time British Waterways dredged its reservoirs?
A reservoir can look full and even overflow, but over the years they have silted up and now hold a fraction of what was originally intended. Therefore one day they appear full and then suddenly levels are low.
What a depressing read today, it makes me very sad to read of rising boating costs, vandalism and water shortage etc. So pleased I was fortunate enough to enjoy the better times afloat in years gone by.
Yes we had vandalism 19 years ago, but then is was done just by yobs, now British Waterways' efforts have to be endured! I certainly would not recommend canal boating today to anyone!
Keep up the work of informing boaters [and potential boaters] of all the snags to what was once a wonderful way of life, living aboard a narrowboat.
