IT WAS David Hymers who asked in his column if it was water shortage or poor maintenance that caused problems.
It is fellow columnist Ralph Freeman who reports the stoppage on the Oxford Canal at present, is caused by poor maintenance.
Significant leakage
British Waterways have reported that inspection of a culvert between bridges 101 and 102 revealed a 'significant leakage of water' from the canal into the culvert, loosing a great deal of water.
The result is emergency work that will cause further restrictions on the Oxford Canal, most of it today.
