Glasson temporary fix

Published: Monday, 20 June 2011

BOATERS were at last able to move to and from Glasson Dock over the week-end after the broken down lock had been temporarily repaired.

The sea lock failure had kept boaters stuck in Glasson Marina on the Lancaster Canal for over a week, many having spoilt holidays, being unable to get into Morecambe Bay.

Closed since 9th June

British Waterways made a temporary repair to the lock to allow boats access to the bay for the first time since 9th June.

The reason for its closure given by British Waterways was that failure of chain rollers guides below water levels made the lock very difficult to operate, and was breaching health and safety regulations.

A permanent repair will be made during the winter stoppage, 'pending appropriate funding being available'.
