Longer Middle Level moorings

THE bane of narrowboaters using the Middle Level moorings is that they were designed for short plastic boats, and completely unsuitable for the longer boats.

At least this has been rectified at the Benwick moorings, where space is now available for narrowboats, and opened by Steve Barclay, MP for North East Cambridge, Alan Tilbury reveals.

Funding

The Peterborough branch of the Inland Waterways Association gave £1,080 towards the cost of the visitor moorings, with additional funding also provided by the parish council and the watermen's club.

The work was undertaken by the Middle Level Commissioners' own workers.

The Inland Waterways Association donation came from its profits of its National Festival held at St. Ives in 2007.
