River bank repairs

The river bank of the Ouse in York is to be repaired between Clifton Bridge and Scarborough bridge.

Altogether 450 yards will have trees cut back that are damaging the banks of the river, with the work starting in August on the first phase.

Nesting birds

However, as is now expected, the repairs, at an unspecified cost, are not to prevent flooding, but to ensure birds nesting in the area are protected!

The local council is also concerned that if its state becomes worse, it could damage the national cycle route which runs along the top of the bank. Boat traffic will not be affected.
