A MEETING at the Meadowside Leisure Centre in Burton on Trent heard that the Inland Waterways Association wanted volunteers for its 'National' to be held again at Burton.

Chairman Harry Arnold explained to the audience what the National festival was all about, and how it helped restoration of derelict waterways.

Second event

The event this year will be the second held at Shobnall Fields  by the Trent & Mersey Canal, with the first somewhat blighted by a waterlogged field where it was impossible to get the exhibitors' boats to the event.

Festival representative Karen McElroy explained that they would welcome volunteers, by offering to run a stall, volunteering for setting up the site, which begins three weeks before the event, or offering to help with litter picking or other activities during the festival itself.

The event is over the week-end of 29th to 31st July.
