Boaters don't want development

ANOTHER canal-side development causing complaints, but this time from boaters as well as local residents.

Developers want to build 1,000 homes on farmland by the side of the Market Harborough Arm on the outskirts of the town, that requires a bridge over the waterway near residential moorings, Alan Tilbury reveals.

Complete village

The massive development would literally be a complete village, with school, shops and a pub, as well as the houses. But it is the construction of the bridge that is causing concern to the boaters, as this will for ever finish their peaceful way of life.

The planning application, submitted to Harborough District Council  shows their are plans to demolish the existing footbridge and build a road bridge across the canal where the Old Union Canals Society has moorings.

The boaters want the bridge built further away, but there seems little chance of this happening, as the plans include the building of the  district council's Innovation Centre.
