Drunk jumped into canal

THE police had to rescue a man who threatened to take his own life, then jumped from a bridge into the Leeds & Liverpool Canal at Wigan.
However, the water was not deep enough and he did not drown, but it necessitated the police, fire and ambulance being called out, Alan Tilbury reveals.
Drag him out
The 19 years old was pulled out of the canal, from where he refused to move, by an officer who had to wade into the canal and fasten a rope around him and drag him out.
A police spokesman stated that the man was drunk and did not seem to know what he was doing.
