Winter works already being cancelled

SUCH is the state of its finances that Canal & River Trust is already cancelling its winter works.

This is the stoppage at Dowley Gap Embankment near Bingley on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal that is needed to contain leakages, Keith Gudgin reports.

Both navigation and towpath stoppages are required to de-water a pound to undertake the leak prevention works to the embankment.

Requires other work

This also requires constructing a channel lining to the canal wash wall base at the towpath side.

This was planned for a winter stoppage but is now cancelled, the trust telling it will monitor the situation, but look to deliver this work in a future winter programme'.
