Canal used for conveying flood water

THE Bridgwater & Taunton Canal is being used to convey flood water.

It is being used by the Environment Agency to move flood water from Fordgate to Bridgwater Docks to help convey flood water on the Somerset Levels away to the Parrett, Keith Gudgin reports.

Two pumps

Two pumps will be installed. One at Fordgate Bridge to pump flood water into the canal, and another will pump water back out of the canal into the Parrett, at Bridgwater Docks.

The agency state it will monitor water levels closely during this time and expect the impact on the canal and its users to be minimal, though there will be an increased flow through this section and there is potential for water levels to fluctuate for a few days.
