Stoppage notice was wrong

"AS THE failure of Wood End Lift Bridge has also been resolved, the Peak Forest is now completely open." you said on 26th October, writes Paul Burke.

And before a weekend cruise I checked CART's stoppages without being told otherwise.

Completely blocked

So it came as a bit of a surprise when we found the cut completely blocked by work boats at Wood End Swing Bridge as we headed towards Bugsworth.

No advance signage, just a hand-written note on a bike barrier nearby. A passing walker (one of 32,464,107 we saw that day, give or take half a billion) told us it's closed till 12th December, so a couple of hundred yards of reversing found us a workable winding place (we're only 44ft) and Bollington was substituted.

Nice meal in the Vale, though.
